The path to success
Joshua 3:1 – 5:1 Read it here
The entry into the Promised Land resembles the departure from Egypt: God parts the waters so that the people can cross on dry land. The body of water is different, and it is now the Ark of the Covenant that is the instrument of the miracle, but the idea is the same: the path to success is prepared by God.
In verse 14 we read that, “That day the Lord exalted Joshua in the sight of all Israel; and they stood in awe of him all the days of his life, just as they had stood in awe of Moses.”
Tomorrow we’ll read about the famous battle of Jericho, but notice that Joshua’s respect from the people isn’t based on his victory in battle, but on a miracle God performed. Joshua wasn’t responsible for the parting of the river—God was. It was Joshua’s reliance on God that led God to exalt him in the eyes of the people, not any act on his own.
As with Moses, it was obedience and humility that led Joshua to be considered great.

Proverbs 16:4
The Lord works out everything to its proper end—even the wicked for a day of disaster.
Prayer focus
Lord, let us look humbly to you for our success and our reputation, and not to our own devices.
