'The Lord gave them rest on every side.'

Peace at last
Joshua Chapters 20 and 21 Read it here
With the tribal lands designated, the only part left are two special cases: cities designated for the Levites and the cities of refuge.
The Levites, if you remember, are the caretakers of the law and worship. They do not have their own land, but are scattered throughout land in cities so they can serve across the Promised Land.
The cities of refuge are the places where someone who has unintentionally killed another person can flee to be safe from whoever would avenge the death. Those cities, too, are deliberately scattered so that no one is too far away from one of them.
For now, at least, life appears settled. “The Lord gave them rest on every side, just as he had sworn to their ancestors.” (21:44)

Sunday meditation

Proverbs 16:17-19
The highway of the upright avoids evil; those who guard their ways preserve their lives.
Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall. Better to be lowly in spirit along with the oppressed than to share plunder with the proud.

Prayer focus
Lord, we look forward to your peace.
