Taking more land…or not
Judges 1:1 – 2:5 Read it here
Judges begins with the Israelites continuing to take parts of the Promised Land. In spite of the many directives to not let the previous inhabitants remain, much of the local population is able to resist complete defeat and either keeps part of their land, or keeps their lives and continues to live in the land as slaves of the Israelites.
Chapter 2 begins with an angel of the Lord appearing and reminding the people of the commands they have not followed.
The people weep and offer sacrifices, yet the previous inhabitants remain. The Israelites express regret for their disobedience, but don’t change course.

Proverbs 16:23-24
The hearts of the wise make their mouths prudent, and their lips promote instruction.
