Consequences
2 Samuel Chapters 20 – 21
The story of David often alternates between good news and bad news—one moment his wisdom and integrity shine through and things go well for him, but the next disaster seems to threaten from every direction.
Here’s a good spot to look a few chapters back, to Chapter 12, when Nathan confronted him about his sin with Bathsheba.
“Now, therefore, the sword will never depart from your house, because you despised me and took the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your own,” God said through Nathan.
He continued, “This is what the Lord says: ‘Out of your own household I am going to bring calamity on you. Before your very eyes I will take your wives and give them to one who is close to you, and he will sleep with your wives in broad daylight.’”
God forgave David his sin, but its consequences continued to haunt his life.
