Day 209 John 7:25 – Chapter 9

"I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life."

Who is Jesus?
John 7:25 – Chapter 8
In the style typical of John, today’s reading is a series of discussions about who, exactly, Jesus is.
In 8:14 Jesus says, “I know where I came from and where I am going.” His meaning is that he comes from the Father and is returning to the Father, but the people consistently misunderstand and focus on his earthly origin and destination.
It is also a rich source for our understanding of the Holy Trinity. While it deals mostly with the relationship between the Father and the Son, John also writes about the Spirit in 7:39. After discussing living waters that will flow within a person after believing in Jesus, John explains, “By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified.”

Saturday meditation

Proverbs 21:19-21
Better to live in a desert than with a quarrelsome and nagging wife.
The wise store up choice food and olive oil, but fools gulp theirs down.
Whoever pursues righteousness and love finds life, prosperity and honor.

Prayer focus
God, let us see the light and walk in it.
