Spiritual blindness
John Chapters 9 – 10
The controversy about Jesus heats up even more when he heals a man who was born blind.
As he often does, Jesus performed the healing on the Sabbath, angering the religious authorities.
Beyond that, though, he also addresses the question the people have as to why the man was blind: Was it his own sin or the sin of his parents?
Jesus says the blindness was not caused by sin, but rather provides an opportunity to display the works of God.
The healing brings further division, with the leaders viewing it as another indication of Jesus’s sinfulness, but some of the observers seeing it as proof he is from God.
As he often does, Jesus takes the opportunity to criticize the leaders, suggesting it is they who are blind.

Sunday meditation

Proverbs 21:22-24
One who is wise can go up against the city of the mighty and pull down the stronghold in which they trust.
Those who guard their mouths and their tongues keep themselves from calamity.
The proud and arrogant person—“Mocker” is his name—behaves with insolent fury.

Prayer focus
Lord, heal our spiritual blindness and let us see you at work all around us.
