King and priest team up to repair the temple

Elisha dies
2 Kings Chapters 12 – 13
The team of king and priest—Joash and Jehoiada—was an effective one, and Joash was a good ruler as long as he had Jehoiada to advise him.
During this time he embarked on an effort to repair the temple. While this was ineffective when managed by the priests, it became effective when money management was moved to the royal secretary and high priest, who distributed money to workmen and for needed supplies.
Ultimately, though, the money had to be used as ransom to stave off attacks by King Hazael of Aram.
Before his death, Elisha prophesied victory over Aram, which finally came after Hazael’s death.

Sunday meditation

Proverbs 24:19-20
Do not fret because of evildoers or be envious of the wicked, for the evildoer has no future hope, and the lamp of the wicked will be snuffed out.

Prayer focus
Lord, may we not envy the counterfeit freedom of the wicked.
