God protects Jerusalem
2 Kings Chapter 19
Hezekiah immediately seeks guidance from the prophet Isaiah, who is reassuring. The Assyrian king, he said, will hear a rumor that makes him want to return to his own land.
The Assyrian king, though, sends a letter to Hezekiah that his days are still numbered and that his god will be of no more protection to him than the gods of other conquered people were.
Hezekiah responds by praying to God for deliverance: “Now, Lord our God, deliver us from his hand, so that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you alone, Lord, are God.”
Isaiah sends word to Hezekiah that God has heard his prayer and that the Assyrian king will not only not defeat Jerusalem, but that he himself will die.
True to his word, God sends an angel to put to death 185,000 of the attacking Assyrians in their camp. Left without the manpower to fight, the king returns to his home where he is soon assassinated by his own sons.

Thursday meditation

Proverbs 24:28-29
Do not testify against your neighbor without cause—would you use your lips to mislead?
Do not say, “I’ll do to them as they have done to me; I’ll pay them back for what they did.”

Prayer focus
Lord, let us put our trust always in you.
